Catherine Ford is a British actress born in Bloomsbury. After her father left her family, she was brought up by her mother grandparents, and godparents. As a young girl, Catherine Ford struggled with an obsessive compulsive disorder and suffered from anxiety due to the word"association. Ford was interested in the field of acting during her teen years, and was a part of the National Youth Theatre. She gained admission to the Sylvia Young Theatre School, but after just a few days, decided that she wasn't a good for the school. Ford decided to apply instead at the Central School of Speech and Drama and eventually secured an interview on her fourth try. Shaun Dingwall was one of Ford's classmates. The actor was later to play frequent roles on the show as Pete Tyler and Doctor Who. Ford completed her degree in 1993 however at the time, she had already made her television debut in a 1991 episode from Surgical Spirit; she adopted the professional name "Catherine Tate". Tate began her TV debut in 1991, appearing on shows like The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. and London's Burning. Also, she was a regular performer in theatres, before eventually becoming a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company for its 2000-2001 season. Tate's stand-up comedy style and humour, which she added to her show in 1996, soon gained her admiration.
